Sandra Ackerman, Psy.D

I completed my baccalaureate degree in psychology at Saint Anselm College. My master’s degree in counseling psychology followed, from Notre Dame College. I then completed my doctorate in counseling and school psychology at Rivier University.

My clinical background includes a strong focus on women’s health. I treat a range of mental health concerns in adolescent and adult females. These include autism, depression, anxiety, and sexual abuse trauma. My approach is integrative, drawing on multiple evidence-based therapies to maximize benefit for each client. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Positive Psychology.

My clinical research centered on female sexual dysfunction, including Female Sexual Interest/Arousal Disorder and Genito-pelvic Pain Disorder. I have a particular clinical interest in treating these conditions. I researched and published an MBCT protocol for treating these conditions in leading sexual health journals.
